This year, Lebanon County voters made their voices heard loud and clear - that the power structure of incumbency was going to end. It's time to take the next step, and deny both major parties a majority in the Legislature.

The smartest thing that voters can do this year is elect enough Independent and alternate party candidates so that neither the Democrats of Republicans will have a majority of seats in either body of the General Assembly. There are more than enough candidates to do so.

By electing enough independent candidates to ensure that neither major party has a majority, they will have to earn the support of independent legislators in order to pass anything. It will be much harder to get bad legislation passed, leaving more time for the legislature to debate and pass much needed reforms, and other worthwhile legislation.

The current Senate has 29 Republicans and 21 Democrats and there are 7 independent candidates on the ballot.

The current House has 109 Republicans and 94 Democrats - 34 independent candidates have qualified in 32 districts.
